Installation / Upfitting Technician

Location: Onsite - Muskegon, Michigan

Job Type: Direct Hire

Pay Rate: $20-$25/hr DOE

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Installation / Upfitting Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, upgrading, and servicing emergency equipment in law enforcement and public safety vehicles. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and experienced with vehicle electronics and low-voltage systems.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

* Install, upgrade, and service emergency vehicle equipment including lights, sirens, radios, push bumpers, partitions, and storage compartments.

* Safely perform vehicle disassembly and reassembly while preserving interior trim and OEM components.

* Execute electrical wiring and system integration tasks-routing, soldering, crimping, and connecting 12VDC and 110VAC components.

* Interpret and apply technical diagrams, blueprints, and schematics for installation and repair work.

* Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and equipment malfunctions using proper tools and methods.

* Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with safety protocols.

* Complete all paperwork and documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

* Collaborate with team members to meet project schedules and deadlines.

* Stay current on emerging technologies, certifications, and best practices in emergency vehicle upfitting.

* Perform other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications

* 2+ years of experience in electrical wiring, vehicle electronics, or equipment installation preferred.

* Automotive technician background or equivalent related experience.

* Strong understanding of low-voltage systems, 12VDC/110VAC wiring, and control systems.

* Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.

* Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical documents, and blueprints.

* Experience with soldering and crimping for secure electrical connections.

* Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and organization.

* Strong verbal and written communication skills.

* Self-motivated, dependable, and adaptable to shifting priorities.


ADA Physical Requirements

* Ability to bend, squat, climb, grasp, twist, reach, and lift for extended periods.

* Able to lift or move up to 50 lbs frequently; more occasionally.

* Ability to stand, walk, or move continuously throughout the workday.

* Occasional sitting and keyboard use for documentation or computer tasks.

* Exposure to typical shop hazards, including chemicals that may require respiratory protection.
